This is copy 37/500, which is on a tipped-in plate, which also has the author's inscription and signature. The bottom margin of the plate has a linear 1 7/8 in. water… stain. 23 chapters; b/w frontispiece; a b/w illustration at the head of each chapter. The top and bottom edges of the cover are faded from shelf wear. The bottom two inches of the boards are faded from having been damp. The binder's glue has caused the endpapers to darken in an uneven manner. The bottom margins of the frontal matter pages are a little wavy. The text block ends have darkened. DJ: The top and bottom edges and the flaps' folds have chips and closed tears, with color loss along most the edges of the damaged spots. Some of the chips may have been caused by an insect. A linear 1 1/4 in. chip takes out the E in Edward on the front panel. Water stain, up to 2 in. high, is on the length of the DJ; it mostly shows on the reverse side. Scans e-mailed upon request. Six ink stamps of various U. S. military wording are on the endpapers and the title page. The text block ends have darkened to brown. About one ninth of the pages each have a chipped corner. One page corner has a large chip, taking out a third of four lines of text on each side of the page. About half of the pages have stains, mostly on the margins, but some have large stains on the text. One page margin have four holes, pinpoint size to 1/8 in. DJ: The spine panel is faded and has a library label. The reverse side has a paper remnant backing the label's position. The bottom ends of the flaps' folds each have a chip, 1/2 in. and 3/4 in.
