In den WarenkorbPaperback. Zustand: Good Only. Not stated (illustrator). First edition. Bernard Vuilleumier discusses the symbolism of his collection of ancient Chinese robes in this first edition. In this interesting volume, Bernard Vuilleumier offers insights into Chinese symbolism as it appears on the robes of ancient aristocrats. With fourteen plates, collated and complete. Following a foreword by Laurence Binyon, Bernard Vuilleumier offers an introduction to his collection of robes before delving into the symbolism of their designs. Vuilleumier's collection includes very rare robes, including a few from the thirteenth century, and several from the Ming and Qing Dynasties. Prior owner's pencil inscription to the verso of the front wrap. The inscription reads 'For the 'Robe' Collector. With all my Love. 6 July 1953. T.' In the publisher's original white paper binding. Externally, a little worn. With handling marks and a couple of spots to the wraps, and numerous closed tears to the edges of the wrap. The front joint is nearly failed, and is delicate. With tiny amount of loss to the head and tail of the spine, and an inch of wrap flapping to the centre of the spine. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are generally bright and clean with the odd spot. Good Only. book.
