Soft cover. Zustand: Very Good. Issue 4 of short-lived but impactful literary journal Genesis West, published Winter 1962-1963. This particular copy contains a type-written note to WBAI Folio dated 1963 signed by the managing editor Fran Fokes. The note largely focuses on exploits and reputation of Fokes husband, also the editor of Genesis West, a young Gordon Lish, who would go on to a very influential career as an editor at Esquire Magazine and Alfred A. Knopf. Genesis West was where Lish began his career, and like the rest of it, his work here proved generally controversial to the literary status quo. This issue features an interview with George P. Elliott, alongside fiction, poetry, letters, paintings, photographs, and illustrations by a number of contributors including Diane Wakoski, Denise Levertov, Theodore Enslin, et al. Softcover 190pg, 5.5" x 8.5". Binding solid, with a minor lean and one light reading crease. Interior clean and unmarked. Covers clean and well kept with some light wear including a small pen mark to the top right hand corner of the front cover and a small stain to the right side. Tiny bump to corners, visible to some of the interior but only at the very tip or the corner and not quite throughout. Small bump to the cover at the bottom edges as well. Spine slightly toned, but overall a clean and decent copy, and with this letter a lovely artifact of the emerging and influential West Coast literary scene. Signed by Author(s).
