Hard Cover. Zustand des Schutzumschlags: Yes. First. First printing. Cloth, 188 pps. with folding map at rear of Canada and the northern American colonies in 1777. The diary, here publsihed for the first time from a family manuscript, of a young Englishman who in the British Army and embarked for Canada with his regiment in 1776. He served with Burgoyne and the diary proper begins in September 1777 when he was taken prisoner--he was on parole for four years during which time he traveled in the new United States, finding himself in New York in 1778 (of which he gives a careful description). He eventually returned to England with a group of invalids and in 1783 went to France. He was there for the peace treaty of Paris in 1784 and later returned to Canada at which point the journal contains much interesting topographical detail as well as some account of the Indians. He didn't make it to the 50 years mentioned in his title---Hughes died of consumption in 1790. Fine in generally fine dust jacket with a hint of sunning to the spine.

In den WarenkorbHardcover. Zustand: Good. No Jacket. A comapct used hardback book, faded burgundy coloured, cloth bound along the spine, with paper sides. No dust jacket. This book is probably more of a booklet than a book itself as its so thin, containing roughly 89 pages plus a few additional advertising pages. Its a used book, tad worn with marks on front board and top right corner of some of the pages, however all text and maps are readable and clear. Its condition is fair to good, normal wear marks and tear apply consistent with use and age. No published date that I can see, I have put down 1902 as the published date, only because of research and it definitely looks like its from that period. Binding a tad loose, but still intact, fabulous old maps inside depicting maps of that period (turn of the twentieth century). Please see photos to gain further sight of the book. Its definitely a wee book to be preserved for future generations.
