A screw-up comedy in which a ship intended to be scrapped is instead commandeered by crooks as a getaway vessel in a bank heist, their two hostages left to attract the attention of the Coast Guard. Kovacs' last film before he was killed in a car crash. Gray titled wrappers, noted as FIRST ESTIMATING DRAFT on the front wrapper, dated Sept. 28, 1960, with credits for producer Barry. The production starred Roddy McDowall and was a precursor to the official Broadway opening later that year. Nathaniel Benchley was a writer who co-authored the program for the 1938 Hasty Pudding show, So Proudly We Hail!, with Alan Jay Lerner.Robert Benchley was a celebrated critic and literary figure associated with the Algonquin Round Table (Algonquin Wits). Alan Jay Lerner and his composing partner Frederick Loewe also stayed and wrote at the Algonquin Hotel, where some guests complained about the noise of their work on My Fair Lady.Provenance: Estate of Alan Jay Lerner, (1918-1986):.In 1962, Russel Crouse had a play, the musical Mr. President, premiere on Broadway. He wrote the book for this musical with Howard Lindsay, and it featured music and lyrics by Irving Berlin.
