He also produced many highly attractive lithographic prints depicting the glories of the Pyrenees region in southwestern France, as illustrated in this volume. The scenes depicted include the city of Pau, several towns and villages, spas, mountain ranges and peaks, numerous waterfalls and cascades, and lakes.

Altkolorierte Lithographie 25 x 33 cm, Blattgröße 35 x 43 cm. Das Blatt zeigt zwei Frauen auf einem Pferd, daneben ein älterer Soldat. Unten rechts im Stein Nap. on. Thomas. Das Bild eingefasst mit zwei zarten Schmucklinien. Darunter in zwei Spalten in französisch und spanisch der Titel und 5 Reihen Erklärungen. - Es handelt sich hier um eine Illustration zu dem Roman von Eugene Sue, der ewige Jude oder der wandernde Jude. Die Frauen sind die Schwestern Rose und Blanche, ihr Begleiter ist Dagobert, ein alter Grenadier. Die Geschichte geht zurück auf eine christliche Volkssage seit dem 13. Jahrhundert. Ein Mann verspottet Jesus und wird daraufhin verflucht. Eugene Sue hat zu dem Thema einen umfangreichen Fortsetzungsroman mit einzelnen Handlungssträngen geschrieben. - Das Papier leicht stockfleckig. Die Darstellung malerisch mit einem feinen, sorgfältigen Kolorit. Trotz der benannten Mängel ein schönes Blatt.

Bound in red half publisher's cloth, frontcover richly embossed and gilt with romantic ornaments. Binding with some use, fly leaves a bit foxed but still a fine clean copy. The views lithographed by Rivière were listed for copyright according the periodical '' La Bibliographie de la France'', 29th of November 1856, item 2396. They represent a very interesting transitional type of print. Rivière based his very accurate drawings on the newly invented medium ; photography. Soon his art would be completely obsolete ; as photography itself , becoming steadily cheaper, would replace these kind of albums. The views of Paris' streets and monuments are very lively and charming.
