Here from a variety of sources, but principally from the previously unpublished correspondence of Arnold Bennett and his wife, the beautiful Frenchwoman, Marguerite Soulie, is the story of a marraige. The editors, (George is Bennett's nephew) present us with a picture of the novelist which is in very close focus indeed. One can almost feel the middle-aged Bennett's desire for the darkly sensuous Frenchwomanm, and indeed sympathise.
