PAPERBACK. Zustand: VERY GOOD. 1997. Azimuth/Sackler Gallery. Softback. Book- VG. 14x9.5. 248pp. Colour frontis, profuse colour and b/w plates and illus. During the sixteenth century, reports by missionaries and traders brought word to Europe of the power and wealth of the Grand Mogul, as they termed the Muslim monarchs who then controlled much of northern India. During the late eighteenth century, the Nawab of Oudh sent as a gift to George III a history of Shah-Jahan's reign with text and illustrations made for that emperor. This was the 'Padshahnama' or 'Chronicle of the King of the World' and it has remained one of the greatest works in the Royal Collection. This magnificent volume accompanied an exhibition of the illustrations from the 'Padshahnama' manuscript on the occasion of the 50th anniversaries of the Independence of India and Pakistan.
