    Cloth. Zustand: Good. None (illustrator). First edition. A first edition of this horticultural study into the growth of apples in New York, presented by S. A. Beach to Ellison Orr. Complete in two volumes. First edition. Inscribed by Ellison Orr to the front pastedown as of 1908, an American naturalist and writer who was largely influential in creating the Effigy Mounds National Monument in Northeast Iowa. He states he was given this volume by the author Ambrose Beach. A detailed study into the classification, adaptation, and varieties of apples in New York. With reference to different regions for growing and an index to the technical terminology. Written by Spencer Ambrose Beach, an American botanist and experimental horticulturalist recognised as the first breeder to cross pollinate grapes, N. O. Booth, and O. M. Taylor, American botanists. Volume one is illustrated with colour frontispiece, nine figures, forty-one half-tone plates, and eighty-eight colour plates. Volume two is illustrated with thirty-seven half-tone plates, and forty-eight colour plates. Collated complete. In the original green cloth binding. Externally, sound with rubbing and bumping to the extremities resulting in minor loss to the cloth. Fading to the spine and the odd mark to the board. Front hinges starting but firm. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright with the odd handling mark or pencil annotation. Contemporary ink inscriptions to the front endpaper. Good. book.
