In den WarenkorbHardcover. Zustand: Very Good. First Edition. Hardback. Dust Jacket. 4to. pp. 255. Coloured frontispiece. Illustrated throughout the text in colour and black and white. Original publisher's dark grey cloth with light grey geometrical design on covers, lettered light grey on spine and upper cover. Dust-jacket. ISBN 1850290059 Presentation copy: 'Paul & Annette I hold you entirely responsible for me being in a position to write this! Stephen x 85.' Loosely inserted typed signed letter from Stephen [Bayley] to Paul [Reilly], typed on headed notepaper from Boilerhouse, Victoria and Albert Museum, London SW7 2RL, dated 23rd October 1985 and consisting of about 130 words in which Bayley reiterates his opinion that the design Council 'was absolutely outstanding' in the 50s and 60s but has recently become less impressive because it has no basis in everyday life and experience. He continues by saying that this has been emphasised by 'the schism between Design and Engineering which he thinks are all part of the same thing.' Below this he has handwritten 'or should be!' Stephen Bayley, an authority on style and design, was chosen by Sir Terence Conran to head up the Boilerhouse Project at the Victoria and Albert Museum. This was Britain's first permanent exhibition of design and it was host to more than 20 exhibitions in five years including Ford Motor Co, Sony, Issey Miyake, Coca Cola and Taste. He then became chief executive of the Design Museum in London which grew out of the Boilerhouse Project. Sir Paul Reilly, an expert in design, was highly influential during the 1950s and 1960s serving on numerous committees. During the 60s he steered the Design Council towards pure engineering and away from consumer products which led to it becoming distanced from culture and experience. Slightly rubbed at head and foot of spine, a couple of nicks to upper corners of dust-jacket. VG. 1850290059 Slight rubbing, otherwise very good. Signedes.
