With a portrait frontispiece. Selections from the letters and poetry of Bernard Barton, an English writer known as the Quaker poet. His main work was The Convict's Appeal (1818), in which he protested against the death penalty and the severity of the criminal code. Edited by Lucy Barton, his daughter. This work also contains a memoir of the author by Edward Fitzgerald, an English poet and writer. Previously held in the library of Francis Frederick Fox, an English oil and colour merchant, and President of the Grateful Society. In the original green cloth binding. Externally, smart with light rubbing and minor bumping to the extremities. Fading to the spine and board edges with the odd small mark to the boards. Small splits in the cloth to the head and tail of the spine resulting in minor loss. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright with the odd small spot. Light age toning to the endpapers. Previous owner's bookplate and bookseller's label to the front pastedown. With a small newspaper clipping pasted to the front endpaper. Very Good. book.
