A presentation of the fine bindings collection of Jean Grolier held in the National Library of France on the occasion of the visit of The Grolier Club of New York on the 29th of May, 2021. Sometime Treasurer of France, Jean Grolier, Viscount d'Aguisy (1479-1565), was a notable collector of fine beautiful books, most of which were bound for himself. This catalogue displays fifty fine examples from his collection.

The catalogue presents 157 selected bindings out of 1,300 bindings preserved at the BNF, made for the kings of France between 1515 and 1565. These pieces, unparalleled in richness and variety, make the reign of Henri II the golden age of French bookbinding. This study situates the bindings within their historical, intellectual, and artistic context.
