London, John Weale, 1839". top edge gilt, the top and bottom spine edges are worn, the boards are dust worn and heavily worn on the edges, (the original boards are thick) internally the sowing is lose, the text is sound and clear, plates have plain paper guards and are near very good condition, as is (ds1). ~ Studies and Examples of the Modern School of English Architecture (no more of this series was published). Includes information about The Travellers' Club and its members. Founded in1819, the Club membership was limited to 700, with one of the rules being, "that no person be considered eligible who shall not have travelled out of the British Islands to a distance of at least five hundred miles from London in a direct line. " Sir Charles Barry was a respected English architect who designed public buildings and country homes. He was influenced by the Italian Renaissance school, which he adopted after a tour of Italy, and is best known for the design and reconstruction of the Palace of Westminster, (the Houses of Parliament) in London, after the fire of 1834. I see George Anson in that list.

In den Warenkorbregretting he cannot grant admission to the works of the New Palace at Westminster, 'being strictly prohibited by Her Majesty's Commissioners of Woods & Forests, as the enclosed circular [not present] which Mr Barry is obliged to send all applicants of whatsoever grade or description'. Sir Charles Barry was awarded the first premium for the Houses of Parliament competition in 1836. From 1840 until his death, he was engaged in building them.
