Taschenbuch. Zustand: Neu. Druck auf Anfrage Neuware - Printed after ordering - Cowan and Steel's Manual has for many years had an essential role in every laboratory of microbiology and bacteriology. This substantially revised new edition, which is modelled on the successful pattern established in the previous two editions, has been fully updated and is suitable for all bacteriological laboratories using traditional diagnostic methods. It is essentially a practical manual with up-to-date contributions and key references by experts to the diagnostic characteristics of the bacteria likely to be encountered in public health and hospital microbiology laboratories, as well as in medical and veterinary practice. This edition contains new sections on rapid and mechanised test methods, and on the laboratory applications of computer theory and practice to the identification of bacteria. As in previous editions, the importance of laboratory quality control and proficiency procedures are emphasised. The Appendices give details of the laboratory methods and media for all the recommended diagnostic tests and, in addition, provide abstracts of the official guidelines for bacterial nomenclature.

In den WarenkorbNo Binding. Zustand: Very Good. Signed letter,1pp., mailing folds, folio, Admiralty Office, 17th July 1817. A letter to J. H. Addinton, saying he has put his letter before the Commissioners of the Admiralty and has "it in command to acquaint you that their Lordships having directed Commissioner Cunningham to furnish you for Lord Sidmouth's information with a list of the Articles taken from those placed at his Lordship's disposal for the sick men in the Batavier agreeably to your request.", signed "John Barrow". The HMS Batavier was captured by the Royal Navy from the Batavian Navy on 30 August 1799. She functioned as a hospital ship from April 1809 until January 1817, after which she was moved to Blackwall to receive distressed seamen. Her final service was as a prison ship based at Sheerness from September 1817 until finally being broken up in March 1823. This letter was written in the short period when HMS Batavier was situated in Blackwall, London. Barrow was appointed Second Secretary to the Admiralty in 1804. In this capacity he promoted British exploration, most notably of West Africa and the North Polar Region, with attempts to find a north-west passage from east to west through the Canadian Arctic. Signed by Author(s).

The Nature of True Religion Hale, Sir Matthew [1609-1676]. Bacon, Francis [1561-1626]. Barrow, Isaac [1630-1677]. The Judgment of the Late Lord Chief Justice Sir Matthew Hale, Of the Nature of True Religion, The Causes of Its Corruption, And the Churches Calamity, By Mens Additions and Violences: With the Desired Cure. In Three Discourses, Written by Himself at Several Times. Humbly Dedicated to the Honourable Judges and Learned Lawyers, Who Knew and Honoured the Author, Because in Their True Sentiments of Religion, And Its Depravations, and the Cure, The Wellfare of England, Under His Majesty, As Well as Their Own, Is Eminently Concerned. By the Faithful Publisher, Richard Baxter. To Which is Annexed the Judgment of Sir Francis Bacon Lord Verulam St. Albans, And Chancellour of England: And Somewhat of Dr. Isaack Barrows on the Same Subject. London: Printed for B. Simmons at the Three Cocks near the West-End of S. Paul's Church, 1684. [xii], 64 pp. Quarto (8" x 6-1/4"). Stab-stitched pamphlet. Light soiling to exterior, light edgewear to first few leaves, early ink mark and later library label to title page. Moderate toning to interior, light foxing and soiling in a few places. $500. * Only edition. One of the great English jurists of the seventeenth century, Hale was chief baron of the Exchequer from 1660 to 1666, when he became chief justice of the King's Bench. He was also a deeply religious man who published several devotional works. Addressed to England's lawyers and judges, and legalistic in tone, the Judgment contains three discourses on "The Use of Religion," "The Principle of Religion" and "What the Christian Religion Is." All are strongly critical of dissent from the Church of England, points echoed in the appended works by Bacon and Barrow. English Short-Title Catalogue R11139.
