Zustand: fair to good. 608 + maps, illus., maps, footnotes, index, errata at p. 607, boards quite worn, small stains & notations inside boards. Includes separate softcover map volume, which contains 34 fold-out maps on 16 sheets of paper (front and back). The hardcover text volume is divided into two sections: Part 1: Heroic Defense, 1941-1942 (4 chapters), and Part 2: Breakthrough, 1943-1944 (8 chapters). Text is in Russian. The Siege of Leningrad started on 8 September 1941, when the last road to the city was severed. Although the Soviets managed to open a narrow land corridor to the city on 18 January 1943, the siege was finally lifted on 27January 1944, 872 days after it began. It was one of the longest and most destructive sieges in history, and overwhelmingly the most costly in terms of casualties.
