In 1899, while serving in the 2nd Boer War, Robert Baden-Powell penned his sixth military book, Aids To Scouting. It was a non-typical training manual with personal stories and even games. Its goal was to encourage the development of light reconnaissance scouting skills within the British Army. The book was well received by various armies of its time, including the French Army. The work was also taken up by teachers and youth groups to help organize outdoor activities and sport, and Baden-Powell eventually embraced the idea of adapting his work into a new youth-oriented book, Scouting for Boys (1908). The book is bound in the original cloth over card covers with black titling on the spine and front cover. The book is in very good condition with shelf wear and light soiling to the covers and fading to the spine and top 1/2" of the rear cover. The contents are secure and clean with fading around the edges of the endpapers and some creasing on the fore edge of the front free endpaper. There is a little foxing on the half-title page and a small stamp from Leckie Graham & Co., Glasgow, on the bottom of the title-page. …
