Hard cover. Zustand: Fair. First edition. 1st US edition. Vol. 1; 8vo 8" - 9" tall; 175 pages; Sadly, a quite poor copy of this classic work. Exposure to damp/water has stained and discolored the cloth along the bottom edge of boards and spine. Pages damp waved along lower edge with discoloration largely confined to the first and last few pages. Silver fishing to patches of rear board. Binding remains sound; contents complete. At worst a reading copy only; a conservator may be able to salvage the better parts. To whit, the spine is largley free of discoloration and the gilt titling generally bright. University of London gilt emblem on cover board also still bright and generally clean. Only minimal evidence of mold on several of the early and late pages could be reversed. A recasing that retained the spine and cover emblem (providing that the pages can be made smooth) would be a pleasant outcome for this presently very shabby copy. P.
