Originally published in 1828, "Historical and Descriptive Essays Accompanying a Series of Engraved Specimens of the Architectural Antiquities of Normandy"'s aim was to define and "clearly exemplify the Christian architecture of the French province." Augustus Pugin (1812-1852) was an architect in the Gothic Revival style, chiefly remembered for his designs for the Palace of Westminster. Here his drawings give a succinct yet complete history of the successive phases of the Norman style, of the development of Pointed Architecture, and of its ultimate decadence in Normandy.
