Zustand: A very good example. Lacquered Boards featuring bold floral composition of red and orange flowers surrounded with vines and leaves on black background and elaborate gilt paneling. rebacked in black calf, spine with blind rules. , The Masnavi of Yusuf and Zuleikha is a poem that was written after Ferdowsi 's death in around 477 AH. It was composed and later a group attributed its composition to Ferdowsi. [1] According to the Britannica encyclopedia , this poem was composed at least one hundred years after Ferdowsi's death. [2] The first sources that attributed Masnavi Yusuf and Zulikha to Ferdowsi; That is, Sharaf al-Din Ali Yazdi 's Zafarnameh (828 AH) and then the preface to Baysanqari's Shahnameh (829 AH), were written more than 400 years after Ferdowsi, and before that date, there is no reference or source (such as Nizami Nizami Prozodi 's Chaharmakala and Tazkira Al- Shaarai ) Dolatshah Samarkandi who spoke about Ferdowsi in detail) did not mention such a story. It is obvious that this legend did not exist before the 9th century of Hijri, and it was first written by Sharafuddin Ali Yazdi., Size : 8vo.(215x168 mm)., Persian manuscript on creme paper, 187 pages, text in 21 lines to the page in 4 columns. Lithographic text and plates, with hand colouring to illustrations. First page dedication to King Mozaffar ad-Din Shah Qajar. Stiff Boards. Zustand: Very Good+. Reprint. Reprint. Stiff Boards. Influenced by the Marquis de Sade's libertine fiction, The Pleasures of Cruelty is one of the darkest Victorian flagellant novels, reveling in cruelty, degradation, and the pleasures of the rod. An extract entitled â The Sultan's Reverie' was published in William Lazenby's underground periodical The Pearl: A Journal of Facetiæ and Voluptuous Reading in December 1880 (Number 18). The first complete edition (three volumes in one) seems to have been published, possibly by Lazenby, in 1886. An edition was also published in â Paris et London' in 1898, probably by Leonard Smithers and Duringe. The author is unknown but it has been conjectured that The Pleasures of Cruelty was written by General Studholme Hodgson or another member (or members) of the flagellant circle that flourished around Richard Monckton-Milnes, Lord Houghton. There is a U.S. reprint: â Paris et London, 1898" (N.Y., c. 1930)â " Clandestine Erotic Fiction in English 1800-1930: A Bibliographical Study by Peter Mendes. Scarce in any 19th or early 20th century edition. Minor shelf/edge wear, else tight, bright, and unmarred. Staplebound/tape in lace patterned wrappers. 8vo, in one volume, 53 pages, lacking illustrations. Volume I lacks two plates. In English from the French. This copy is only one volume in set of three.

Manuscript in ink, 2 pp, single quarto sheet (250 x 200 mm); written in a scrawly though legible hand; old horizontal and vertical folds, in very good condition. Provenance: Found among papers associated with the family of John Mickle Lyall (1869-1925) of Harewood House, Koo-Wee-Rup, Westernport, south of Melbourne. John was the son of Westernport pioneer William Lyall (1821-1888) and Annabella (Brown) Lyall (1826-1916). We have tentatively attributed this manuscript to JohnMickleLyall's oldest child, Harewood Lyall (b. 1899), as he would have been about the right age to have been the creator of this "cheat sheet" for dance steps around the time the fox trot came into vogue (after 1914). It was most definitely written by someone for whom dancing did not come naturally!.

Needlework sampler bookmark, 105 x 65 mm; very well preserved. The text reads: 'John Evans / Born / June 17th 1878 / Round Mountain / Sweet copy far more dear to me / Than all the living forms could be. / Save him who placed thee next my Heart'; [together with] another sampler bookmark, sewn onto silk, 210 x 28 mm, worded 'Think of me.'; in good condition (the silk a little frayed). These sweet keepsakes were both found in a photograph album belonging to the Evans family of Bombandy, between Cudgegong and Rylstone, southeast of Mudgee in the Central West of New South Wales. John Evans (1878-1968) was born at Round Mountain, near Rylstone, on 17 June 1878. His parents wereJohn William and Jane Evans. The keepsake commemorating his birth was almost certainly made by his mother, judging from the wording of the text; and it is quite likely, considering the shared context of the two objects, that Jane Evans was also the maker of the 'Think of me' bookmark. John married Elsie May Rayner (1887-1961) on 19 April 1905 in Union Church (Church of England), Mullamuddy, a tiny township between Cudgegong and Mudgee. They had 8 children. John and Elsie both died in Mudgee.
