He urges them to 'carry on the torch which has been handed down to them, and to keep their famous University in its place in the forefront of the vangard of the of Culture & Science, to which Scotland & the Empire owe so much'. There is no indication that the piece was published.

Illustration of tree on bank of lake on front cover. The back covers of both items carry the first page of music of Tennant's arrangement of Tennyson's 'Now Sleeps the Crimson Petal', published by the same firm in 1912. According to Tennant's son Hugh Kendall, his mother saw herself as 'one of the first women composers. She studied under Nadia Boulanger in Paris, and subsequently in Munich (1904-1907).' Sheena Lilian Grant Tennant (hereafter ST) came from a privileged Scottish family, being the youngest of the six children (five daughters and a son) of the wealthy industrialist James Tennant of Fairlieburne, Fairlie, Argyllshire, a nephew of Sir Charles Tennant of the Glen (father of Margot Asquith, wife of British Prime Minister H. H. Asquith, who was hence James Tennant's cousin). Beginning as a partner in the Glasgow chemical manufacturers Charles Tennant & Co., James Tennant became director of companies including United Alkali Co, North Eastern Electric Supply Co, and Eastern Paper Mills Co. ST was educated at Cheltenham Ladies' College, studied music composition in Paris under Nadia Boulanger (1887-1979), and at the Royal Academy of Music, Munich (1904-1907). She worked during the war and until her marriage as assistant to Major William Byam (1882-1963), Royal Army Medical Corps, at the Royal Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene, Euston, and in Hampstead. On 31 July 1919 she married Herbert Moorhouse Kendall (1881-1941) of the P & O, previously of the 3rd Duke of Cornwall's Light Infantry.

While there, a message was delivered to him from the Prime Minister, Ramsay MacDonald, asking for his input on a statement about Dominion status.
