Arthur Crew Inman, born to a wealthy family in Atlanta in 1895, was a bit of a complex figure. After suffering from a nervous breakdown during his second year in college in Pennsylvania, Inman went on to write and publish at least thirteen books of poetry, which were largely unsuccessful. This volume is composed largely of nature poetry, focusing on nature scenes and feelings of loneliness. Inman married in 1923 and moved to Boston, where he sequestered himself in soundproofed rooms. His inherited wealth allowed him to indulge in his hypochondria and need for seclusion. He hired individuals to come and talk with him in his darkened apartments. Inman is best known for his extensive handwritten diary which filled 155 volumes and contained around 17 million words. The diaries have been the subject of a play, an opera, and an upcoming movie. Inman committed suicide in 1963 when he could no longer bear the noise coming from the construction of the Prudential Tower. . First Edition. Hard Cover. Very Good/No Jacket.
