Hardcover. Zustand: Very Good. Published in 18th century, a copy of an academic album initially intended for the study of Classical drawing. It represents a collection of the drawings from the most powerful artists such as brothers Carracci (Agostino, 1557-1602, Annibale, 1560-1609, Ludovico, 1555-1619), Parmigianino (1503-1540) and Abraham Bloemaert (1566-1651). The album was assembled by Alexander Browne (active 1659-died 1706), who was an artist, publisher, printseller, auctioneer and dealer. The publisher and seller of this edition was Joseph Nutting (16601722) was an English engraver, working in London. He is known for his portraits, often used as book frontispieces. According to the pen inscription on the pastedown endpaper the album belonged to an unknown "MS. A. Hitchcock". Bound together with a collection of naive hand drawings and copies of the Classical masterpieces, including an urban plein-air landscape. No text. In 8vo. 27,3x19,95cm. [1]+30 etchings + [24 leaves of drawings]. Etchings, drawings in pencil, sanguine, pen and inks on paper. Possibly missing frontispiece. Five raised bands. Quarter leather hard cardboard binding. Worn. Spine title slip with golden lettering. Handwritten inscription on the front pastedown endpaper. Seller's sticker on the flyleaf "Araki Osaka Japan". Very good condition.
