A comprehensive dictionary of architecture from Aachen, the German name for Aix-La-Chappelle to Ernest Friedrich Zwirner, who succeeded Ahlert as the architect at Cologne cathedral. Volume one contains seventy plates, volume two contains thirty-nine plates, volume three contains thirty-one plates, and volume four contains ten plates, some of which are in colour. Rebound in contemporary half calf binding. Externally, smart with bumping and rubbing to the extremities, particularly the head and tail of the spine which has resulted in minor loss. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright and clean with the odd handling mark. Library bookplate to the front endpaper of some volumes. Very Good. book.

From an excellent source, being the Birmingham Patent office. Thirty plates to volume I, forty-two plates to volume II, thirty-two plates to volume III, eight plates to volume IV, twenty-three plates to volume V, seven plates to volume VI, five plates to volume VII and six plates to volume VIII. 152 plates total. A very scarce work. Uniformly bound, in a buckram binding. Tipped in to volume VII is a notice to members of the Architectural Publication Society regarding this volume's publication. The notice requests that receipt of this part may be 'at once acknowledges by post-card to Arthur Cates'. From the library of the Patent Office, with their stamps to the margins of occasional leaves. An informative work, with essays and entries compiled by noted individuals in the field. In uniform buckram bindings. Externally, all volumes are in an excellent condition with just some minor shelfwear to the head and tail of the spine. Internally, all volumes are firmly bound. Occasional institutional stamps from the Patent Office Library, an attractive stamp, not obstructing text. Contents leaf to volume II is chipped. Notice tipped in to volume VII. A comprehensive Dictionary of Architecture from Aachen, the German name for Aix-La-Chappelle to Ernest Friedrich Zwirner, (b.1802) who succeeded Ahlert as the architect at Cologne cathedral. There are two volumes (I: A-C and II: D-H) of illustrations. In half morocco binding. Externally, sound. There is some wear to the extremities including some fading to the spine and some quite noticeable rubbing. Each volume has a bookplate and stamps from Hove Free Public Library. Each plate in the illustrated volumes is stamped on the back. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are generally bright and clean. Some of the black and white diagrams have been hand-coloured. Good. book.
