The Decretum Gratiani, otherwise known as the Concordia Discordantium Canonum is a collection of canon law which was formed in the 12th century as a legal textbook by a jurist known as Gratian. It was used by the Roman Catholic Church until 1918 when the first Code of Canon Law obtained legal force. In the original Latin. With woodcut to title page and woodcut head and tailpieces. This criticism is by the first canon law historian, Augustinus. It was first published in 1587 under the title 'De Emendatione Gratiani Dialogorum Libri duo'. Augustinus was a Spanish Humanist historian, jurist and Roman Catholic archbishop. He was the leading figure in the historical research regarding sources of canon law. He is one of many authors that demonstrate the 16th century as being the founding age of the science of history. A scarce edition of an important historical look at canon law, by a pioneer in this scholarly field. In original paper boards. Externally, sound, but lacking a backstrip. Rubbing to the boards. Hinges are strained but firm. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright with just the odd spot to pages. Good Only. book.
