He is the literary executor of the Estate of W. H. Typed signed letter loosely inserted addressed from 31 Blacksmith's Yard, Binham, Fakenham, Norfolk NR21 0AL dated August 31st 1987 and consisting of about 190 words in which Gathorne-Hardy says he is delighted to hear about Ansen's new organs 'in the end no doubt the most important of all will be replaced with that of some strapping young lad who fell from the yard arm and then your letters will become very spicy reading.' Gathorne-Hardy encloses a copy of his short stories and says he wrote to Burroughs but has had no reply. He adds that he won't be coming to Athens in the foreseeable future as his 'foreign life has to be in Spain at the moment.' He has to go to Austin Texas in the following year and asks if Ansen knows anyone within striking distance of the university. Jonathan Gathorne-Hardy (born 1933) is a biographer, social historian, and writer of fiction and children's books. He lived in Athens on and off. Alan Ansen (1922 Ð 2006) was an American poet and playwright who is associated with the writers of the Beat generation. He was the model for characters such as Rollo Greb in Kerouac's 'On the Road', AJ in Burrough's 'The Naked Lunch' and Dad Deform in Corso's 'American Express'. He worked as W. H. Auden's secretary and research assistant from 1948 to 1949. During the 1960s he moved to Athens where he lived for the rest of his life.
