Innen sauber und ohne Anstreichungen. 1948 hatten Storch, Anderson und… Hofer das von FIAT und BIOS entwendete deutsche Labor- und Anwendungs-Wissen über das Fischer-Topsch-Verfahren analysiert und auf die Füße ihrer neuen Welt gestellt: "das über Jahrzehnte angesammelte, implizite Erfahrungswissen deutscher Laboratorien wurde von den amerikanischen Forschern um Henry H. Storch im Geiste des modernen Chemical Engineering objektiviert. Aus einer handwerklichen Rezeptur wurde ein mathematisch-physikalisch standardisiertes, weltweit reproduzierbares Industriewissen." (siehe Katalog) Dies war ein 'Systemvergleich' in 'grauer', nicht-öffentlicher Literatur. Nun ging Storch mit Anderson und einer neuen Beteiligten, Norma Columbic, daran, den Mehrwert der damaligen US-amerikanischen Evaluation für industrielle Interessenten verwertbar zu machen: Fischer-Topsch 2.0. Bei alledem war wichtig: dieses Verfahren sollte in den USA sollte keinen Versorgungsnotstand in Sachen Benzin, Flugbenzin und Diesel kompensieren. Hier ging es ausschließlich um die Möglichkeit, auf diesem Wege, Olefine, Alkohole, Wachse, Spezialparaffine, Oxo-Vorprodukte zu gewinnen. Verkürzt: das FT-Ergebnis Synthesegas war für die USA kein Treibstoffersatz, sondern ein chemischer Rohstoff - und FT war ein möglicher Weg, daraus Schwerprodukte zu gewinnen. FT war damit ein Katalysator-Labor, kein Industrieprojekt. Die USA machten Synthesegas zur Plattformchemie. Und damit ist auch der Titel unseres Buches nachvollziehbar: nicht das FT-Verfahren wurde hier beworben, sondern die industrielle Verwertbarkeit der 'related sythesis'. Das Buch von Storch, Columbic und Anderson lieferte unter dem Rubrum Fischer-Topsch' die erste mathematische Theorie der FT-Katalyse, die erste physikalische Erklärung der Carbidphasen, die erste systematische Beschreibung der Poren- und Diffusionsmechanik und mit alledem die erste industriell reproduzierbare Beschreibung der katalytischen Verarbeitung von Synthesegas. Insofern war FT war nur der Laborfall, an dem die Amerikaner die allgemeine Physik und Chemie der Metallkatalyse erstmals mathematisch formulierten. Die Ergebnisse wurden später universell: in Methanol, Oxo, Reforming, Hydrierung, Ammoniak und Petrochemie. Und für diese Entwicklung waren die beiden Publikationen Storchs und anderer eine Grundvoraussetzung: die FT Katalyse konnte nur zur Grundlage der amerikanischen Nachkriegskatalyse werden, weil 1948 die physiko chemische "Black Box" des Verfahrens mathematisch geöffnet worden war. Erst dadurch wurden die Abläufe wiederholbar, überprüfbar und vor allem übertragbar. Insofern ist unser Band der zweite Teil jener kopernikanischen Wende', die im Zusammenhang mit der Nachkriegs-Auswertung des Stands deutscher Laborkompetenz stattfand: 1948 wurden aus handwerklichen Erfahrungsrezepturen ein mathematisch-physikalisch, insofern standardisiertes und damit reproduzierbares Wissen. Und 1951 wurde nun aus den Laborergebnissen ein industriell verwertbares Chemical Engineering Modell. Sprache: Englisch Gewicht in Gramm: 600.
