During World War II, he led the development of the V-2 rocket in Germany before coming to the U.S. in 1945. He eventually joined NASA, where he directed the Marshall Space Flight Center and became the chief architect of the massive Saturn V rocket that took humans to the Moon. Frederick I. Ordway III was an American space scientist, author, and professor. Ordway worked directly with von Braun at the NASA Marshall Space Flight Center. Beyond his extensive academic work and book publications, he is famously known as the technical adviser for Stanley Kubrick's classic 1968 sci-fi film 2001: A Space Odyssey. Frederick C. Durant III was an American chemical engineer, naval aviator, and expert in rocketry. Durant was a key figure in the U.S. Project Orbiter team-the foundation for America's first satellite, Explorer 1. He later served as the Assistant Director of Astronautics for the National Air and Space Museum. Dave Dooling was a science writer and research associate for Essex Corporation in Huntsville, Alabama, where he was formerly the science editor for the Huntsville Times.
