This system of medicine is as old as Indian history itself and has formed an integral part of the Indian traditions since time immemorial. Reference to plants used as drugs is often found in old literature (Atharvaveda, Charak Samhita, Sushruta Samhita, etc.). The compiled data has been collected through open questionnaires and informal interviews held with Vaidyas, Hakims and elderly village people, who have knowledge of the medicinal use of plants and mostly use them in treating their ailments. The book includes more than 80 plants, which are used for treating various ailments with natural medicines prepared as teas, infusions or decoctions. The plants are enumerated alphabetically by their botanical names, followed by English names, Local names, descriptions, distribution, major chemical composition, use in ailments, ingredients, method of preparation, preparation time of medicine, dose and precaution if any. A glossary of medical terms along with an index of Botanical names, English names and vernacular names. An index to ailments has also been provided. It is hoped that the book would be a handy tool for use by people to cure ailments through plants that are commonly available around them and provide strength to the body organs and immune system at an affordable price with almost no side effects.
