The authors--a neurobiologist and an electrical engineer--spent eight years among the isolated group, documenting their customs and traditions.

Samuel Allen Counter (1944-2017) was an African American professor of neurology and founder of Harvard's Foundation for Intercultural and Race Relations. In this book he and engineer David Evans discuss meeting in the rainforest of Suriname, South America amongst the natives, also of African descent. This event was covered in a 1978 PBS TV documentary.

A collection of mimeographed underground literary magazines featuring contributions by David Meltzer, Diane Wakoski, Edward Dorn, Charles Bukowski, Allen Ginsberg, Charles Potts, Charles Olson, R. Buckminster Fuller, Philip Whalen, and Robert Creeley, among many others. A lot featuring Wild Dog, the brainchild of Ed Dorn, and a magazine that was published in 21 issues, first in Pocatello, and then in Salt Lake City and San Francisco. The magazine featured students as editors and contributors. Many of its contributors were associated with the San Francisco Renaissance, the beat generation, and the New York School. The other two journals highlighted in this lot were only produced in very small runs- Synapse and Out of Sight Volume 1, Number 1, a journal which only released 2 issues.
