Whilst feminism was opening the bandwidth of acceptable female gendered identities through the latter part of the 20C, male identities remained predominantly constrained to hegemonic ideals: until now. Drawing on Queer theory and Post-Feminist philosophies this book introduces in a very real way the idea of transgender as a healthy and creative way for people of whatever biology to create and present a more congruent and honest gendered self to the world. Written in two parts, this book combines both formal academic research with auto-ethnographic methodology to offer a very readable text that places historical explanations of male cross-dressing into context and then illustrates how contemporary scientific knowledge can offer new insight and potential. The latter part of the book then offers, through a deeply personal and emotive narrative, a powerful insight into the world of a transgender person. Of interest to anyone wishing to learn more about gender identity whether personally or professionally this book will also be of benefit to counsellors, therapists and other health professionals unfamiliar with this topic, and to people exploring a transgender identity themselves.

Erstausgabe
Trade paperback. Zustand: Very good. xiii, [3], 433, [3] pages. Frontis illustration. Illustrations. Notes. Index. Alexander Drummond is a writer and former director of publications for the National Center for Atmospheric Research in Boulder, Colorado. Enos Mills (1870-1922) was the quintessential voice of the Rocky Mountains in the early decades of the twentieth century, and he achieved fame as a naturalist and nature writer, conservation pioneer, lecturer, and mountain adventurer. Enos Mills: Citizen of Nature is the first full-length examination of Mills and his work, an incisive account of a complex, controversial, and often difficult man who touched millions of lives in his time and whose legacy has great relevance today. Enos Abijah Mills (April 22, 1870 - September 21, 1922) was an American naturalist, author and homesteader. He was the main figure behind the creation of Rocky Mountain National Park. In 1889, he had a chance encounter with famed naturalist John Muir on a San Francisco beach, and from that point on Mills dedicated his life to conservation activism, lecturing, and writing. In 1902, Mills purchased the Longs Peak House near Estes Park from his cousin, Elkanah Lamb. Mills hired and trained nature guides there, who guided many people up Longs Peak and the surrounding area. His methods of nature interpretation are still taught to students in the field of interpretation. From 1902 to 1906, Mills was a Colorado State Snow Observer, a position in which he measured the snow depths to predict spring and summer runoff. Following this position, he served as the United States government lecturer on forestry from 1907 to 1909. The history of Rocky Mountain National Park began when Paleo-Indians traveled along what is now Trail Ridge Road to hunt and forage for food. Ute and Arapaho people subsequently hunted and camped in the area. In 1820, the Long Expedition, led by Stephen H. Long for whom Longs Peak was named, approached the Rockies via the Platte River. Settlers began arriving in the mid-1800s displacing the Native Americans who mostly left the area voluntarily by 1860, while others were removed to reservations by 1878. Lulu City, Dutchtown, and Gaskill in the Never Summer Mountains were established in the 1870s when prospectors came in search of gold and silver. The boom ended by 1883 with miners deserting their claims. The railroad reached Lyons, Colorado in 1881 and the Big Thompson Canyon Roadâ"a section of U.S. Route 34 from Loveland to Estes Parkâ"was completed in 1904. The 1920s saw a boom in building lodges, including the Bear Lake Trail School, and roads in the park, culminating with the construction of Trail Ridge Road to Fall River Pass between 1929 and 1932, then to Grand Lake by 1938. Prominent individuals in the effort to create a national park included Enos Mills from the Estes Park area, James Grafton Rogers from Denver, and J. Horace McFarland of Pennsylvania. The national park was established on January 26, 1915. First Paperback Edition [stated], First Printing [Stated].
