Première édition française consacrée au Dīvān de Manūc…hihrī Dāmghānī, offrant une ample mise au point historique et philologique, une traduction commentée et l'établissement du texte persan, référence majeure pour la poésie de cour ghaznavide, la métrique classique et l'étude de la littérature persane médiévale. Manoutchehri de Damghan est un poète persan du XIe siècle (actif vers 1020-1045). Son vrai nom était Abū l-Najm Aḥmad ibn Qāwūs, dit Manoutchehri Damghani. Le nom « Manoutchehri » est son takhallus (nom de plume) : il viendrait très probablement d'un premier mécène nommé Manoutchehr (le prince ziyaride Manoutchehr fils de Qâbûs, qui régna à Gorgân/Tabaristan vers 1012-1031). Né à Damghan, dans le nord-est de l'Iran, il a vécu une partie de sa vie à la cour de Ghazni (aujourd'hui en Afghanistan), auprès du sultan Masʿûd Ier. Il a écrit un Dīvân, c'est-à-dire un recueil de poèmes, composé surtout de qasidas de louange et de pièces lyriques plus courtes. Sa poésie, claire et très rythmée, décrit avec force images la nature et la vie de cour : les saisons, la chasse, le vin, la musique et les fêtes. Cette simplicité brillante a marqué la tradition persane classique et inspiré de nombreux poètes après lui. Albert de Biberstein-Kazimirski (1808-1887) est un orientaliste et lexicographe d'origine polonaise installé à Paris, spécialiste de l'arabe et du persan. On lui doit surtout le grand Dictionnaire arabe-français (en 2 volumes), longtemps resté l'outil de référence, ainsi qu'une traduction française du Coran et de nombreuses versions ou éditions de textes persans.
