Shifting Shifting umfasst vier Werke Miks, die in den letzten achtzehn Monaten entstanden sind: Vacuum Room (2005), Scapegoats (2006), Raw Footage (2006) und Training Ground (2006). In überraschender und bizarrer und zugleich ungewöhnlich vertrauter Weise lassen uns diese Filme in ihrem Kern erkennen, wie Macht ausgeübt und immer wieder neu verteilt wird, wie menschliches Verhalten sich wiederholenden Mustern folgt und wie außergewöhnliche Situationen auf beunruhigende Art gewöhnlich sind. Mit der Ausnahme von Raw Footage sind alle diese Werke Fiktionen. Sie haben keinen klaren Anfang und kein eindeutig definiertes Ende. Wie immer, wenn es sich um ein Werk von Mik handelt, gibt es keine klassische Filmerzählung und keine solche Tonspur. Die Handlungen sind hyperrealistisch inszeniert mit einer fast schon absurden Akribie in der Realisierung von Details.
