In den WarenkorbRehearsal script of the Tony Award winning musical, inscribed by the composer to Clive Hirschhorn on the title page, "To Clive, Charles Strouse", together with musical notation for the opening of the song "Put On a Happy Face". Charles Strouse and Lee Adams's first Broadway musical, Bye Bye Birdie, was a spectacular success. It was followed by a West End production, several revivals, and TV or film adaptations. The original cast included Dick Van Dyke (who won a Tony Award), and Chita Rivera (who was nominated for a Tony Award). The script comprises title page, cast list, a "musical synopsis of scenes", together with the script of Prologue to Act 1 (1 page), Act 1 (62 pages), Prologue to Act 2 (1 page), and Act 2 (41 pages). There are some pencil annotations throughout. These include an erased note of Peter Marshall playing the role of Albert Peterson, which was the West End casting. However, other notes on the cast page do not correlate to the West End production. Many of the notes present drastic cuts (a note at the foot of page 1-1-2 redirects to the beginning of page 1-1-5, and the omission of the opening of Act 1, scene 3). The severity of these cuts suggest that the script was not used in a production. Folio. Mimeographic typescript, 108 leaves (279 x 216 mm), printed on rectos only. Original light blue wrappers, front wrapper lettered in gilt comprising title and "studio duplicating service, inc." name and address, two brass screw brads. Housed in a custom blue cloth folding box. Wrappers worn at extremities with tears to spine, slight browning to leaves: a very good copy.
