Erstausgabe
Hardcover. Zustand: Very Good. No Jacket. ATLAS OF AMERICAN HISTORY JAMES TRUSLOW ADAMS EDITOR 1943 1ST EDITION 147 PLATES. If you are interested in history, I simply don t understand how you could do without this book. This large hard cover book (7 ½ x 10 ¼ inches, 360 pages) was published by Charles Scribner s Sons of New York, dated 1943 and the First Printing of the First Edition (hence the Scribner s A on the copyright page). The book is bound in dark green library-quality boards with gilt titles on the spine. As the Foreword notes so cogently: much of our history is concerned with places; and to understand what happened, we must also know where it happened. This book provides a visual and chronological as well as geographical march through American history by mean of 147 plates of maps, many very detailed and annotated, depicting where history happened! Condition: This book is in very good condition. The hard covers are clean and bright and the gilt titles on the spine perfectly legible and even handsome. There has been some minor rubbing and bumping to the corners and spine tips but nothing extreme. Inside, the book is unmarked although someone has cut off a ½ inch wide stripe off the right-hand page of the front endpaper (which presumably had a former owner s name). I found no other marks in the book and am pleased to say that it is also free of toning and foxing. The front hinge is starting, and the rear hinge has been refurbished with librarians tape, and the binding remains tight and sound. This book is not ex-library or a remainder.
