Abbot went to Cuba to restore his fragile health. This eloquent Harvard graduate then traversed a thousand miles on horseback, through Sumidero and Lemonal, Matanzas, a week in Havana, etc. "The pictures he has given, are of things which were immediately before him, as exact in circumstances, and as true to the life as his pencil could pourtray; and the statement of facts is correct according to his convictions - Preface." { Sabin 14; Palau 519; Shaw & Shoemaker 37345}. Abbot died on his return trip before reaching his Massachusetts home.…
