However, rainfall is the only source of water the spatial and temporal variation of which is very high. Therefore conservation and management of this source is vital for agriculture development and socio-economic uplift of the area. This study was, mainly, devised to address land distribution problems and consequent farm productivity in the study area. Furthermore, level of land distribution disparities was focused on to observe its relationship with different on-farm and socio-economic indicators including gross margins, cropping intensity crop diversity, income distribution disparities and institutional credit availability etc. All of the aforesaid indicators were also assessed for small, medium and large farm size categories. The farmers were divided into two main categories irrigated and rainfed farmers. Land was observed evenly distributed in irrigated area while land distribution was found most skewed in rainfed area. The performance of most of the indicators i.e. yield, gross margins, farm income, labour productivity, income distribution, cropping intensity and crop diversity was found better in irrigated as compared to rainfed. While marginal factor productivity, irrigation productivity and rate of institutional credit availability was higher in irrigated area. However, rainfed area was always least efficient with respect to all of the quantified indicators. The findings of the research are helpful for the farmers of the study area in decision making among different farm enterprises. Hence it can alleviate poverty and help to bring food security in the deprived regions.

The materials used are easily available in the markets and included steel sheet with high power of reflecting light, steel pipe, angle iron and fully insulated drying box. The concentrating collector was a tilted at 34°south (Equivalent to the latitude of Peshawar). The concentrating reflector has a reflecting surface area of 2.9 m2 and focal length of 0.17 m. The length and width of the collector were 2.4 m and 1.21 m, respectively. The absorber having a surface of 0.376 m2 was fixed in front of the reflector at the distance equal to focal length. The heated air was flowing through fan from absorber tube to drying box. The maximum temperature of the absorber was 140 oC. The drying box was a 1 m x 0.57 m x 0.55 m box fully insulated. All Fruits and vegetable were dried with high air flow rate (1.72 kg.min-1). The technique incorporates all the three important aspects of an Optimized and Cost Effective Power Management System and gives a complete microcontroller based low cost solution. These aspects include: power factor improvement, voltage optimization and surge / spike suppression. For power factor improvement, an algorithm is devised which automatically switches capacitors based on real time calculated requirements. A soft switching mechanism is used for the purpose of bringing capacitors in or out of the circuit depending upon the overall inductive load. For voltage optimization purpose, a circuitry is included in the design which manages incoming voltage and regulates it to a level more suitable for home appliances.
