The very scarce first edition of this work.In the original German.A beautiful study on Japan, complimented with sketches throughout, a wonderful snapshot of the country at the end of the nineteenth century.Illustrated with full-paged and in-text illustrations.Written by Konni Zilliacus Senior, a Finnish Independence activist who was involved in the 1905 Grafton Affair.Zilliacus lived in Japan from 1894 to 1896, and his son was born there. In the original publisher's quarter cloth binding with paper to the boards. Externally, generally smart, with some discolouration and marks to the boards and spines. Minor bumping to the head and tail of the spine and to the extremities. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean with some occasional handling marks. Very Good. book.
