Leather. Zustand: Very Good. None (illustrator). A Tauchnitz edition of von Tautphoeus' romantic society-set novel, in a lovely binding by Cedric Chivers. Complete in two volumes.Bound by Cedric Chivers, based on Gay Street Bath, with their blind stamp to the front free endpaper. An entertaining romantic and travel novel, looking at how a strong minded person may protected someone from a frivolous society.By the Baroness Jemima von Tautphoeus. This edition was published by Bernhard Tauchnitz. Tauchnitz started his 'Collection of British Authors' in 1842, and it continued for almost exactly 100 years. By breaking with the European practise of ignoring British copyright law, Tauchnitz was a driving force behind international agreements on international copyright protection. The goodwill he gained from British authors enabled him to be the principal continental publisher of English language works. He was often sent early proofs, and so was able to first publish at the same time or very soon after the British publisher. In a half calf binding with marbled paper to the boards, by Cedric Chivers. Externally, generally smart, with some rubbing to the boards and spines, resulting in a small amount of loss of leather. Spines are a little faded. Blind stamp to the front free endpaper. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are lightly age-toned and clean, with just a couple of light spots. Prior owner's ink inscription to the title pages. Very Good. book.
