Cloth. Zustand: Very Good. None (illustrator). The 1944 edition of this reference work on Merchant Ships. Illustrated throughout, with several drawings of the ships, their funnels, maps of the British Empire shipping and more. This book has a strong focus on the merchant ships of the British Empire although also discusses merchant ships of other countries such as Argentina, Belgium, Egypt, France, Germany and more. This work is particularly interesting as it was published during the Second World War. The foreword notes how the 'situation at sea has turned very decisively in favour of the United Nations' and what this means for merchant shipping. There is also a section of recognition silhouettes of American, German, Japanese and British fighter planes. It discusses recognition features of each plane as well as their type, dimensions, engines and armament. Published by Sampson Low, Marston and Co, a reputable publisher for works on ships. They are also known as the publishers of Jane's Fighting Ships and Ships of the Royal Navy. In a full cloth binding with gilt stamping to the spine. Externally, smart with rubbing to the head and tail of spine and to the extremities. Bumping to the extremities and to the spine as well. Small amount of light rubbing to joints and to some areas of boards. Hinges are slightly strained but firm. Internally, generally firmly bound though strained in places. Pages are generally bright with the odd light spot throughout. Very Good. book.
