So verhält es sich auch mit dem allgemeinen und gleichen Wahlrecht für Frauen und Männer. Die Durchsetzung des Frauenwahlrechts war im frühen 20. Jahrhundert ein Thema, das breite Gesellschaftsschichten empörte und größten Zündstoff bot. Das finnische Volk bewirkte 1906 eine Verfassungsänderung, die die Einführung des aktiven und passiven Wahlrechts für alle Bürger, auch für Frauen, zur Folge hatte. Schon seit 1893 hatten in Neuseeland und seit 1902 in Australien die - weißen - Frauen wählen dürfen, aber erst in Finnland wurde im Rahmen einer Verfassungsreform 1906 auch das passive Wahlrecht für Frauen eingeführt. Die finnischen Frauen konnten somit zum ersten Mal bei den Parlamentswahlen 1907 und seitdem ununterbrochen die vollen politischen Rechte ausüben. Das Jubiläum dieser Verfassungsänderung von 1906 ist Hintergrund des Erscheinens der vorliegenden Publikation, in der die einzelnen Stationen der Entwicklung in Finnland und die der Frauenbewegungen in Deutschland, Österreich und der Schweiz beleuchtet werden.
