See Fauntleroy's entry in the Oxford DNB. Although accounts of his depravity are exaggerated, Fauntleroy led a dissolute life, and appropriated securities worth around £360,000. During his trial at the Old Bailey he called seventeen merchants and bankers to testify to his integrity, but his defence was unsuccessful, and he was hanged outside Newgate, before a crowd of 100,000. The present item is 1p, 4to. Bifolium, addressed on reverse of second leaf to 'Sir Cuthbert Sharp | &c &c', with endorsement. In fair condition, lightly aged and worn, with slight damage to inner edge of second leaf caused by removal from mount. With several folds. Written in a clear hand with a good bold signature. Reads: 'My Dear Sir Cuthbert | I have heard from you with every attention what you have proposed from the Assignees to me I will give it every consideration & shall hope in a few days to communicate with you upon the subject | I remain | Most faithfully Yrs | H Fauntleroy'. Sharp was presumably an assignee of an estate which had suffered as a result of Fauntleroy's forgeries.

See her husband s entry, and those of her father the Earl of Durham, and Sir Cuthbert Sharp, in the Oxford DNB. 3pp, 12mo. Bifolium. In good condition, lightly aged, with small closed tear to blank area at foot of second leaf. Folded for postage. Laid down on leaf removed from album. Begins: Lady Mary Lambton presents her Compliments to Sir Cuthbert Sharp, and begs to express her grateful sense of the kind message, conveyed to her through Mrs. Brodie, concerning Sir C. Sharps small pamphlet - . She was absent in Scotland when it was published, but she, and her brother & sister were much gratified with the perusal of the copy, so kindly sent by Sir C. Sharp. In consequence she was anxious to possess a few more , and she ventures to assure Sir C. Sharp - that her naturally retired life, now, can never efface her recollection of such friends of her father s as she well knows Sir C. Sharp to have been , and although her brother was young at the time of their sad affliction, [the Earl of Durham had died in 1840] she feels confident that he too will ever preserve the same feeling, - & prove it more & more as he grows older. Sir C. Sharp will be glad to hear that he is well & strong - & all that his family could wish. - .
