George Augustus Nokes (1867 1948), widely known by his pen name G. A. Sekon, was the founding editor of The Railway Magazine. In this work, he provides a history of the Great Western Railway, with information about its inception, and the construction and development of the railway, particularly in South Devon, Cornwall and South Wales. He provides a detailed history of the parliamentary, engineering and commercial aspects of the development of designs for different gauges. Illustrated throughout. In the publisher's original cloth binding. Externally fairly smart, with shelf wear to the extremities, joints and the head and tail of the spine, with a small loss to the head of the spine. Front hinge is slightly strained but is held firmly. Rear hinge is tender, and may become detached with further handling. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are generally bright and clean apart from a scattering of spots to the first and last few pages. Good. book.
