Taschenbuch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware - Life's Too Short. for instant coffee, to hang on to a grudge, not to pray, for anything but love. 'In almost every generation of preachers, a few voices rise to the level of representing the best of that generation. Robert Lee Hill is such a voice. I am reminded of something Frederick Buechner once said, 'Inspirational books are usually for the birds.' He was referring to the sappy quality of many writings that are intended to be inspirational. In the case of Life's Too Short for Anything But Love, Buechner would be wrong. This collection truly inspires- in the root sense of helping readers feel (and want to join) the movement of the spirit of life. It does so because it is rooted in a deep, honest, probing approach to life. Hill's sensitivity ranges from the poignant and most touching to the highest moments, and includes a generous (and always appropriate) sense of humor.' - RONALD ALLEN, Professor of Gospels and Letters, Christian Theological Seminary, Indianapolis, Indiana.

Taschenbuch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware - How do we cope in times of stress and seeming turmoil Is love the answer Robert Lee Hill thinks so, and he makes his case in 'All You Need is More Love,' a poignant, exuberant, and vital collection of essays, musings, remembrances, and missives. Hill declares that love is foundationally and ultimately our greatest possession and our greatest gift, offering this rich trove of humor, introspection and observation supporting the belief that we live well and live best by loving one another. 'All You Need is More Love' is a potent, sorely-needed reminder of the importance, power, and indispensability of love in our daily interactions, civic life, and personal relationships. Robert Lee Hill is a nonfiction writer, poet, and community consultant for non-profit organizations focusing on social justice issues, including quality public education, increased voter registration and participation, and access to health care for all. He has written or edited nine previous books, including 'The Color of Sabbath,' 'Hard to Tell,' and his initial love-focused endeavor, the acclaimed 'Life's Too Short for Anything But Love.'.

Taschenbuch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware - How is it possible for life to be affirming, religion to be relevant, and our daily human journey to be full of hope in times so riddled with division, cynicism, and negativity In Life is to Be Celebrated, Robert Lee Hill responds to that overarching question with 52 messages born out of his experience as a pastor and community leader. In these pages, clergy, laypersons, and spiritual seekers will find positive guidance and inspiration for living lives marked by goodness, joy, love, and celebration.FROM THE FOREWORD: 'If there were a Hall of Fame for Preachers, Robert Lee Hill would certainly be included. These fifty-two sermons exhibit the best of contemporary preaching with respect to spirit, theological acuity, timeliness, concern for justice, human insight, homiletical variety, evocative language, and poetry. I do not know of a contemporary preacher who has a better eye and ear for just the right word, for the expressive phrase that opens up a fresh perspective on the world, for the sentence that makes me think, 'Oh, why did I not think to say it that way ' I do not know of a book on preaching that better brings a life-giving theology to our time. I hope it receives the wide readership that it deserves. And I hope that wherever it is read, it sparks celebrations of life.' - Ronald J. Allen, Professor of Preaching, and Gospels and Letters, Emeritus, Christian Theological Seminary, Indianapolis.

That tradition is vividly portrayed in Gardens of Georgia, commissioned by the Garden Club of Georgia, Inc., to commemorate its sixtieth anniversary and to celebrate the heritage and beauty of Georgia's gardens. As noted by Georgia founder James Oglethorpe in 1732, Georgia has a happy climate. From the broad-shouldered mountains of the Blue Ridge, through the red clay of the rolling piedmont, across the sprawling piney coastal plain, and on to the subtropical islands on the Atlantic, Georgia is blessed with four regions of gardening opportunities, distinctly defined by differences in elevation, climate, soil, and natural vegetation.Writer William Mitchell and photographer Richard Moore have portrayed the wonders of gardens historic and contemporary, public and private, and urban, suburban, and rural from each of these regions. Whether illustrating overall gardenscapes or capturing intimate vignettes and individual blossoms, Richard Moore's photographs have a depth of color and clarity of detail that immerse the reader into a world of delightful splendor. The text by Willaim Mitchell not only describes the settings as they are today, but also spins a rich background of history in the context of the botanical Eden observed by early explorers. The richest legacy of each generation is to preserve and protect an always vulnerable natural environment and help nature bring forth its green and glowing cycles of rebirth. Gardens of Georgia celebrates that legacy, sharing the ongoing dream of paradise--a new Eden--whether it is in a grand formal garden from an earlier era or a small plot of perennials in a Georgia yard. ; FINE/FINE.
