In den WarenkorbHardback. Zustand: Good plus. First Edition. 1877. First edition. lxxii, 78pp. and a frontispiece. Sir Walter Scott (1771-1832) was the ninth child of Walter Scott (1729-1799), a member of a cadet branch of the Clan Scott and a Writer to the Signet, and his wife Anne Rutherford, a sister of Daniel Rutherford and a descendant both of the Clan Swinton and of the Haliburton family (descent from which granted Walter's family the hereditary right of burial in Dryburgh Abbey). He had ambitions of establishing a family which might perpetuate his name, in connection with that spot on the banks of the Tweed which he had reclaimed and adorned, and this book contains a genealogical account of his Family. Included is a reprint of the 1824 issue of "Memorials of the Halliburtons," which first appeared under Sir Walter Scott's editorship in 1820, from the press of James Ballantyne & Co. The book is bound in the original red cloth covered bevelled boards with gold titling on the spine. The cases of the book is in good condition with shelf wear, soiling and noticeable staining to both boards. The cloth on the corners is worn with a little damage on the bottom front corner and the spine ends are bumped with damage and some loss to the cloth. The contents are in better condition being tight and clean with some foxing to the half-title and last page. There is a thin split to the front and rear endpapers down the spine gutter but no inscription. Overall, this is probably best regarded as being a sound and complete reading and reference copy.
