In den Jahren unmittelbar nach dem Krieg wurden dem informationsbegierigen deutschsprachigen Leser vor allein übersetzte Texte amerikanischer Autoren angeboten, denn die deutsche Geschichtswissenschaft hatte ebenso wie die übrigen nationalgeschichtlich orientierten Universitätshistoriker in Europa die USA als Gegenstand von Forschung und Lehre vernachlässigt.
