The work has been deemed "a magisterial work, the expression of a lifetime's research.It is the handbook from which the next generation of scholars will begin" (n.b., from dust jacket flap, Vol. II). ___DESCRIPTION: Both volumes bound in full cloth over boards (Vol. I in orange and Vol. II in blue), silver lettering stamped onto both spines; largo octavo size (9 1/4" by 6 1/4"), Vol. I approx. 783 pp. and Vol. II approx. 695 pp. Both dust jackets in shades of blue and orange with stylized crown on the front, summary of book on both front flaps, both flaps unclipped and unpriced. ___CONDITION: Volumes fine overall, with clean boards, straight corners without rubbing, strong, square text blocks with solid hinges, the interiors clean and bright; the sole prior owner markings we see some inked notations on the verso of the rear free endpaper, else fine.
