Zustand: Good. 1925. No Edition Remarks. 285 pages. No dust jacket. This is an ex-Library book. Quarter bound brown leather with brown cloth covered boards. Black and white photographic plates. Fold out map at rear. Ex library copy with associated labels, inserts, stamps and annotations. Pages with some foxing and tanning, particularly to endpapers and textblock edges. Some cracking to gutters with exposed netting. Binding loose. Boards have moderate shelf wear with mild bumping and fraying to corners and crushing and rubbing to spine ends. All surfaces heavily tanned. Gilt lettering is slightly dulled. Some additional marks and staining to surfaces.

Frederick William Hugh Migeod (1872-1952) served in the Royal Navy from 1889 before becoming assistant transport officer in the West African Frontier Force at Lokoja from 1898 to 1899. He entered the Colonial Office in 1900 and served in the Gold Coast as chief of the transport department until he retired in 1919. He was a gifted amateur ethnologist and philologist who wrote several linguistic works and travel books. Covers slightly rubbed and marked, a good copy of the first edition in the publisher's olive green cloth from the John Lawson collection with his bookplate. We have been selling antiquarian books on Africa, Oceania, archaeology, anthropology, travel and the ancient world for over forty years. Bright with the odd spot and handling mark, mostly to front and rear.
