Designed and printed by Nicolas McDowell using computer generated Bulmer types and polymer blocks to print the book by letterpress. Printed on paper hand-made by Frances McDowall, the furnish using a mixture of Abaca and Jute, with an admixture of reeds and irises for the endpapers. Illustrated paper covered boards, black spine titling. Housed in a folding slipcase covered in burnt orange cloth, lined with blue Ingres paper. Folio, 335 x 230 mm, pp. [1-6] 7-57 [colophon] [2, blank] with images throughout produced using a variant of the nineteenth century printmaking technique known as cliché-verre. An illustrated 'good wishes' card laid in and signed by Clive Hicks-Jenkins and Dr Peter Wakelin. A book and slipcase in Fine condition. The Affectionate Shepheard was first published anonymously in London in 1594, when its author was 20 years of age. Thge book includes an essay by Dr Peter Wakelin entitled 'The Enigmatic Shepherd: the sweet & bitter love of Richard Barnfield (1574-1627)'.
