An unused wedding souvenir book with sections to complete by writing or pasting, including: a photograph of the bride, a photograph of the groom, date of the engagement, wedding cards, names of the bridal party, names of guests, wedding gifts, photographs of the parents, samples of the materials of the wedding gown, newspaper notices, and congratulation messages. Designed and illustrated by Maud Humphrey, an American commercial illustrator, watercolorist, and suffragette who was the mother of Humphrey Bogart, and Paul de Longpre, a French painter of flowers, who worked mainly in the United States. In the original cream cloth binding. Externally, very smart with light discolouration and the odd small mark to the boards. Internally, generally firmly bound. Pages are very bright and clean with age toning to the endpapers. Very Good. book.

The hinges are a little shaky, there is a 2" split in the rear endsheet along the hinge, and there is a contemporary gift inscription on the front free endpaper. The frontispiece page is just beginning to detach at the foot. Maud Humphrey, a successful commercial artist and the mother of Humphrey Bogart, was well-known for her watercolor representations of idealized children at play.

Throughout her career, Humphrey illustrated numerous books, calendars, and greeting cards, earning over $50,000 a year, a considerable sum at the time. Her sweet depictions of children perfectly capture the playfulness and charm of Mother Goose; each verse has its own colour illustration, with the text printed in calligraphic lettering.
