An affectionate and revealing memoir of the legendary inventor Sir Hiram Stevens Maxim, creator of the Maxim machine gun. The Maxim gun was the first fully automatic machine gun in the world; derivatives and variations are still in use to this day. The historian Martin Gilbert called the Maxim gun, "the weapon most associated with imperial conquest," and its power and notoriety is summed up by the following Hillaire Belloc verse: "Whatever happens, we have got / The Maxim gun, and they have not." Hiram Percy Maxim was himself an accomplished engineer, he is credited with inventing and selling the first commercially successful firearm silencer. A Genius in the Family was adapted in 1946 into a comedy-drama film produced by Universal Pictures titled, So Goes My Love while the UK release used the same title as the book. BOOK: Original dark red cloth is a bit faded, book with a slight forward lean; top-stain dark, a line of browning to fore edge, a little off-setting to endpapers.
